Accounts Payable/Payroll Clerk

The ideal candidate will perform a variety of secretarial, administrative and clerical support duties and activities that require proficiency in typing, computer skills,word processing, spreadsheets, exercise independent judgment, confidentiality, and a high degree of accuracy. Work regularly involves handling of reports containing information of a confidential and sensitive nature including filing of sensitive information. Responsibilities will also include administrative assistance utilizing a high degree of discretion, judgment, and confidentiality on a daily basis.

Minimum Requirements: ** High school diploma or equivalent required with Associates degree in accounting or related field. ** Prior experience in dealing with employees and the public, in person and/or phone. ** Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and other office software desired in addition to proficient knowledge of computers and data entry experience.

Physical Examination with drug screen & Background Investigation required. FLSA Status: Non-exempt. This position has a full City of Sturgis Benefit package.

PART TIME - Doyle Front Desk Attendants

Positions available with set "weekday" hours and/or evening and weekends. Responsibilities include, but not limited to the daily operations and clerical duties of the reception/front desk. This position meets and greets all members and visitors upon entering the facility while providing professional and courteous customer service at all times. Some of the duties include, but not limited to: computer system work, class & court reservations, providing information on events and activities, answering the phone, enrolling new memberships, and cash register operations.

Education: High School graduation or equivalent. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate with people of all ages. Experience: Prior customer service experience is preferred, with experience in secretarial, clerical, computer systems/software and record keeping. Physical Requirements: Position requires the ability to perform the essential functions contained in this description. These include, but are not limited to, the following requirements:

1) Ability to enter and retrieve information from a computer. 2) Ability to solve basic mathematical equations. 3) Ability to access all areas of the recreation center. 4) Ability set-up and tear-down rooms/courts with tables, chairs and other athletic equipment. 5) Stooping, kneeling and crouching to perform physical activities associated with programs and events. 6) Ability to lift various objects, at times, weighing not more than 50 lbs. 7) Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time to monitor and evaluate the activity in the facility. FALL SEASONAL Cemetery & Parks Maintenance

The City of Sturgis is seeking seasonal help in the Parks & Cemetery Department for the Fall season. Workers needed 16 to 40 hours per week with flexible schedules.

FULL TIME FIREFIGHTER

Salary: $12.35 hourly - $41,106 yearly Basic Qualifications: Valid Driver’s License, clean background, clean drug screen Basic Educational Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, State of Michigan Firefighter I & II certificate or equivalent, State of Michigan EMT license or equivalent Experience: No Full-Time Firefighting experience required, Part Paid Firefighting experience required.

The position of Firefighter is to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services to the residents of the City of Sturgis. This is accomplished through regular training; responding to calls; investigation and inspection, fighting fires and providing emergency medical services in compliance with all department and state rules and regulations. Other duties include performing station cleaning and maintenance, equipment maintenance, providing public education as well as report writing. The position requires the employee to work 24 hour shifts, 10 to 12 days per month, and have the availability to cover overtime and work holidays. Employees are required to establish residence within 20 miles of the Sturgis Fire Station within 18 months of hire date.

Essential Job Functions: • Ability to read and understand written instructions as well write Fire and EMS reports • Ability to operate basic computer software and learn windows based reporting programs • Attends and actively participates in training sessions, classes, and schools on fire prevention, suppression and emergency medical / rescue topics • Attends and actively participates in physical fitness as to maintain a state of readiness • Actively clean, repair, inspect and maintain firefighting apparatus, equipment and department buildings and grounds • Performs house watch duty and accurately completes required records and daily reports • Inspects all types of buildings for fire hazards and familiarization purposes, participates in pre-fire surveys and takes an active role in public fire safety education programs • Drives assigned fire apparatus’ to incidents; operates pumps, aerial ladders, and auxiliary equipment; lays hose and directs hose streams, ventilates buildings, performs interior searches, rescue and suppression activities, first aid and salvage/overhaul operations, and other tasks as assigned by the incident commander • Responds to rescue and emergency medical calls, rendering emergency care to the sick and injured and performs a wide variety of rescue operations, including auto extrication, industrial and agricultural entrapment and other procedures • Other job related functions as outlined in the most current edition of NFPA-1001 may be used at the discretion of the City to identify Essential Functions of this class of employee • Performs other related work as assigned. RECREATION ASSISTANT - SEASONAL

Help organize and supervise the Summer Adult & Youth sports leagues, tournaments, clinics, programs and special events as well as be responsible for scheduling and supervising officials, instructors and volunteers associated with these activities.

EDUCATION; High School graduation or equivalent. Some college level coursework in Recreation, Leisure Services, Sports Management or closely related field is preferred.

* Customer Service experience is required, with planning, developing, and supervising recreational programs an/or previous experience in health, fitness or athletics is preferred. * Ability to: 1 - demonstrate and setup various sports equipment for events and activities. 2 - set-up and tear-down rooms/courts with tables, chairs and other athletic equipment. 3 - access all areas of the community center and city recreation facilities. 4 - stooping, kneeling and crouching to perform physical activities associated with programs and events. 5 - ability to lift and carry various recreational equipment weighing more than 50 lbs. 6 - ability to stand for prolonged periods of time to monitor and evaluate the recreational activities and events. 7 - willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

COOKS - Sturges Auditorium

STARTING WAGE: $11.00 per hour - FLSA Non-exempt. Day and night shifts available with flexible scheduling, averaging 28 hours per week. Prepares meals for events scheduled at the Auditorium and catering events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Reviews menu plans to determine types and calculate quantities of foodstuffs necessary for meals. Enters food orders to computer and orders necessary items from vendors. 2. Plans cooking schedules so all meal items are ready at specific times. Evaluates necessary food products from storage, cooler and freezer to ensure that the appropriate number of meals are prepared. 3. Performs and oversees staff performing preliminary food preparation activities such as washing and paring vegetables, fruits, slicing meats, making salads and other foodstuffs. 4. Prepares and cooks main course meats, vegetables, starches and specialty items, such as: baking cakes, pies, and desserts. Also prepares eggs, egg dishes, and other breakfast items. 5. Oversees and participates in the portioning of food on serving trays for distribution, ensuring that appropriate temperature of foods is maintained in the serving process. 6. Ensures compliance with public health regulations regarding food preparation, service, and storage, including ensuring proper sanitation of all food service areas and equipment. 7. Utilizes a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment such as blenders, ovens, mixers, grinders, fryers, steamers, and slicers in the preparation of meals. 8. Closes kitchen at end of day, including ensuring proper cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen and all equipment, ensuring ovens and all equipment is turned off, and locked up. OTHER FUNCTIONS 9. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school graduation or equivalent. Prefer some advanced coursework in food service management, nutrition and related areas. Experience: Some prior experience in institutional cooking preferred, providing experience with food preparation and service, nutritional requirements, and sanitation requirements. GIS MANAGER

The GIS Manager will manage all GIS related activities for the City and support GIS functions for all the City departments. The position includes duties that range from GIS management and leadership to technical GIS execution.

Functions will include, but not limited to supervising and training GIS and City staff; coordination of GIS work; direct related data development projects; provide expertise to City staff, engineers, planners, consultants and developers; maintain utility databases; data manipulation; attend City meetings and Commission Meetings; implementation and maintenance of Quality Control/Quality Assurance program and/or procedures.

Employment Qualifications – include proficiency with ESRI software ArcGIS; GIS data conversion, editing, map production, spatial database management, spatial analysis and reporting; AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and relation to GIS; strong cartographic/data management skills; import and export data from DBFs; Access tables and queries and SQL statements; strong leadership, mentoring and team-building skills; experience with project management and budgets; very strong communication skills with the public, City employees, management, Commission, Local, State and Federal governments with both oral and written skills; knowledge of server maintenance and computer networks; and development of specifications for aerial photography.

Education – Minimum of five (5) years of applied GIS experience, College or work experience in Geography, Cartography, Planning, Natural Resources, Engineering, GIS or related fields.
