Volunteer boards and commissions serve an important function within the City of Sturgis. These advisory bodies are responsible for assisting the City Commission with areas or issues of importance, providing valuable insight to both City policy makers and administrators. A list Boards and Commissions with a brief description is available below.

Volunteer board and commission members are appointed by the City Commission, with eligibility requirements and terms of service that vary based on the bylaws and organization of the group. If you are interested in serving on a City board or commission, you can print and fill out the application below or contact the City’s Clerk’s office at 651-2321. Airport Advisory Committee: Advisory board dealing with airport matters; addresses issues of airport facilities and proposed improvements. 
Meets: 6:00 p.m., 3rd Tuesday, Kirsch Municipal Airport

Auditorium Board: Responsible for guiding policy of the Auditorium and promoting its use. 
Meets:
5:30 p.m., 3rd Thursday, Sturges-Young Auditorium.

Board of Review: Hears appeals and resolves conflicts on the assessed tax value of properties within the City.  Meets: Two days in March

Construction Board of Appeals: Hears all appeals concerning the State of Michigan building Code. 
Meets: Whenever appeals are made

Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors: Supervises the activities of the DDA and works with business owners to promote the downtown community. 
Meets: 7:30 a.m., 1st Wednesday, Chamber of Commerce

Doyle and Recreation Advisory Board: Responsible for guiding policy of the Doyle Community Center and advising on issues related to the City Recreation Department. 
Meets:
4:00 p.m., 1st Monday, Doyle Center

Economic Development Corporation and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority: Oversees the activity of these bodies established to promote development in the Sturgis area and rehabilitate and redevelop brownfield properties. 
Meets:
4:00 p.m., 1st Tuesday, City Hall

Elected Officials Compensation Commission: Reviews the compensation of City Commissioners and other elected officials and recommends adjustments to the same. 
Meets:
Bi-Annually

Election Commission: Supervises the operation of elections within the City and handles responsibilities including hiring election workers, scheduling elections, reviewing results, and performing recounts when required.

Employee's Retirement System: Makes decisions on matters concerning the assets of the Employee Retirement Plan.
Meets:
Quarterly

Parks & Cemetery Board: Responsible for guiding policy of the City's parks and cemeteries and providing recommendations on the same. 
Meets: Quarterly (March, June, September, December), 9:00 a.m., 2nd Tuesday, City Hall

Planning Commission: Advises the City Commission on matters relating to the development of the City and prepares and recommends a Master Plan and Zoning Code for the City as scheduled and mandated by State law. 
Meets:
5:30 p.m., 3rd Tuesday, City Hall

Sister City Committee: Responsible for coordinating and promoting activities and citizen exchanges between Sturgis and its Sister City, Wiesloch, Germany. 
Meets:
Bi-Monthly 5:30 p.m., 4th Thursday, City Hall

Sturgis Housing Commission: Responsible for setting the policy of the Maple Towers Senior Citizen's Complex. 
Meets:
5:00 p.m., 4th Tuesday, Maple Towers

Zoning Board of Appeals: Hears all appeals concerning the Sturgis Zoning ordinance. 
Meets:
