Marihuana Business Development and Licensing

NOTICE: The City of Sturgis will begin accepting applications for Adult Use Marihuana Retailers in the Business Highway 1 (B-H1) zoning district on September 1, 2020. The window for accepting applications will close at 4:00 pm on November 23, 2020. All application documents and the application review fee must be received by the Community Development Department by this day and time. No applications will be accepted after the close of the window period. You can look up the zoning district of an individual parcel online at the City’s GIS map HERE.

The City of Sturgis has approved the local permitting/licensure of Medical and Adult-Use Recreational Marihuana businesses. The below information provides the local authorizing ordinances, local applications, and other information for both Medical Marihuana Facilities and Adult-Use Recreational Marihuana Establishments. Medical Marihuana Facilities

Under the State of Michigan's Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA) the City of Sturgis has "opted in" to having five types of facilities: Class A, B, and C growers; processors; secure transporters; provisioning centers; and safety compliance facilities. Below is a copy of the most recent local ordinance outlining the application process and rules for facilities as well as an application for a local permit.

Adult-Use Recreational Marihuana Establishments

Under the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA) the City of Sturgis has provided for the local licensure of the following Adult-Use Recreational establishments: Class A, B, and C growers; processors; retailers; safety compliance facilities; secure transporters; and marihuana microbusinesses. Below is a copy of the local ordinance outlining the application process and rules for establishments, as well as an application for a local license.
