Sturgis, Michigan 49091
As dedicated team members of the Sturgis Fire Department we stand ready to provide the highest standard of service to all those who seek our help through~
- Preparedness: Daily physical and mental preparation for performing fire, EMS and rescue functions.
- Prevention: Educating our youth about fire safety and regularly performing fire inspections of businesses to assure the safety for all.
- Performance: Actively intervening at fire, EMS and rescue emergencies to help protect the citizens of Sturgis.
In conjunction with St. Joseph County Central Dispatch, Sturgis Dispatch and local Emergency Agencies, the emergency sirens shall be tested on the first Saturday of each month during the months of April thru October.
The test will occur at 12:05 pm, unless there is a heavy load of emergency calls in the dispatch center. The test will occur as soon after emergency traffic clears and will last approximately three minutes. The test is designed to allow citizens of the communities the opportunity to hear the siren and become familiar with them so that in an actual weather emergency, there will be no confusion as to what the sounding of the siren means.
In an actual Severe Weather situation, citizens should take cover in a basement or low area and monitor local radio stations on a portable radio for further instructions or the all clear signal.
For more information on Tornado safety and weather awareness, contact St. Joseph County Emergency Management Coordinator, Captain Jim Barnes at 269.467.9045 extension 233.
